How to Register as a Recycler on the Online EPR Portal for Battery Waste Management


With the increasing need for sustainable waste management, the Ministry of Environment, Forest, and Climate Change has introduced the Battery Waste Management (BWM) Rules, 2022. As per these regulations, all battery waste recyclers must register with the respective State Pollution Control Board (SPCB) through the Online EPR (Extended Producer Responsibility) Portal.

This guide walks you through the step-by-step process of registering as a recycler on the EPR portal.

Step 1: Sign-Up on the EPR Portal

To get started, visit the EPR portal and click on "Create Account." Select Recycler as your applicant type. During sign-up, provide the following details:

Company Details:

  • Name of Company & Trade Name (as per GST)
  • Type of Business (Private/Public/Proprietorship, etc.)
  • Registered Address, State, District, Pin Code
  • PAN & CIN (if applicable)

Authorized Person Details:

  • Name & Designation
  • Mobile Number
  • PAN & Aadhaar Number

Login Credentials:

  • Authorized Email ID
  • Password & Confirmation

Once you enter these details, submit the sign-up form to create your account.

Step 2: Filling the Application Form

After logging in, access the Recycler’s Dashboard and click on 'Initiate Registration'. The form consists of several parts:

Part A: General Information

  • The system will auto-fill company details from your sign-up information.
  • Enter the GST Number, PAN Number, and Consent Validity (under the Air & Water Act).
  • Provide the validity details of your authorization under Hazardous Waste Management Rules, 2016.
  • Enter the Recycling Capacity as per your CTO (Consent to Operate) issued by the respective SPCB/PCC.

Part B: Battery Information

  • Select Battery Type, Technology Used, and Key Materials Recovered.
  • Provide procurement details such as HSN Code, Quantity of Waste Batteries Procured, and Financial Year.
  • Enter data on Battery Recycling Quantities and Key Metals Recovered.

Part C: Document Uploads

To verify your registration, you must upload the following documents (mandatory):

  • GST Certificate
  • PAN Card of the Recycling Unit
  • Valid Consent under Air & Water Act
  • Authorization under Hazardous Waste Management Rules, 2016
  • DIC (District Industries Center) Registration Certificate
  • Process Flow Diagram of Recycling Process
  • Last 3 Financial Years' Annual Returns

Part D: Geo-Tagged Images

Upload geo-tagged images and a video link (Google Drive or other cloud storage) of your recycling unit. You also need to mark your location on the map or manually enter latitude and longitude coordinates.


Part E: Recycling Equipment

Provide details of your Battery Dismantling Equipment and Battery Material Processing Equipment.

Step 3: Payment & Submission

  • Accept the declaration checkbox.
  • Click 'Confirm & Initiate Payment' to proceed with the registration fee.
  • Once the payment is successful, your application will be submitted for review.

After submission, you can preview your application from the dashboard and track its status.
